HISTORY

Styrax benzoin is a species of tree native to Sumatra in Indonesia we called HAMINJON. Common names for the tree include gum benjamin tree, loban (in Arabic), kemenyan (in Indonesia and Malaysia), onycha, and Sumatra benzoin tree.

Haminjon sumatran (Styrax benzoin Dryander) has many bioactive compounds such as cinnamic acid and its derivatives. This essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of dry latex. Some of the smell of Haminjon smoke is a product of pyrolysis.
